After witnessing Manchester United defeat against Blackburn Rovers for our New Year’s Eve match, I would touch on another significant matter to the football world, the opening of the transfer window. I have heard a lot of United fans voice out in blogs, newspapers and talk shows on the need for United to sign someone in January and I have been asked on my view on this topic a few times. My opinion on this matter is that I don’t believe Sir Alex Ferguson will sign anyone in January. If he does, I will be genuinely surprised now whether the surprise, is positive or negative, only time will tell. Read the full story

Manchester United’s treble winning former striker Dwight Yorke says Barcelona could struggle to deal with Chicharito and Wayne Rooney. The former Red Devil feels that Sir Alex Ferguson will have briefed his players on the threat of Lionel Messi and insists that the Premier League champions can win at Wembley. Yorke believes that Sir Alex Ferguson’s side can beat Barcelona in the Champions League Final but admits that the La Liga winners will start as favourites.

I stated in a previous post that I think it’s highly unlikely that this country will ever produce another Paul Scholes (although admitting there is still a slight possibility), because our coaches and fans nurture and appreciate different, conflicting and sometimes downright incorrect characteristics in our footballers.

Much like Dimitar Berbatov, Michael Carrick is a player that seems to divide opinion amongst the United faithful. Ask many fans for their opinion of the midfielder, and the first response you will probably receive is “big-game bottler”, a reputation that was firmly cemented for Carrick following his performance against Barcelona in the 2009 Champions League final.
Such criticism is harsh though, any good United fan will tell you that things could have been different in that final were it not for the ridiculously cruel suspension of Darren Fletcher, who would have been able to press the Barcelona midfield and free Carrick up for more creative duties. It says everything about Paul Scholes that he has crept unnoticed into Manchester United’s all time goalscorers Top 10 with his dramatic injury time winner against Manchester City on Saturday. No fanfare, no fuss – aside from a startling kiss on the lips from Gary Neville, and certainly no pre planned celebration despite his milestone. A typical Scholesy understatement.
