The Community shield preview: United vs Pompey

Manchester United are playing against Southern side Portsmouth in their first official game of the season at New Wembley tomorrow at 15:00 GMT. Although the extended injury list, Nani – Owen Hargreaves and Foster, Sir Alex plans to win his first game of the season against one of the promising team in England. The squad for Wembley will be boosted by the return of Michael Carrick – the midfielder trained on Thursday after recovering from the virus that also waylaid Wayne Rooney.

“Carrick trained yesterday for the first time and I’m taking him to Wembley,” said Sir Alex.

Also Skipper Gary Neville will be included in the squad. We also can see a surprise return of the golden boy, Wayne Rooney, who is also clear of the virus but he returned to training only yesterday after missing every session since the Reds returned from Africa on 28 July. United are looking to repeat last season won in The Community shield. United beaten Chelsea 3-0 on penalties after 1-1 draw in a game saw Van der Sar saved three spot kicks.

Harry Redknapp’s side, who won the FA cup after dramatically knocking United out in quarter-final, have strengthen their squad with quality players such as striker Peter Crouch who will join his national team-mate Defoe. They both scored numbers of goals which will create a threat to United in the coming game.

“Harry brought Peter Crouch into his squad, so you can see the direction of the partnership with Defoe,” Sir Alex said.

“Those two will be a handful for anyone. Hopefully we can cope.”

It looks Carlos Tevez is almost certain to start on his own up front while promising Fraizer Campbell to take part after half time depending to the score.

Manchester United expected starting line up for Pompey game:

Edwin Van der Sar, Wes Brown, Rio Ferdinand, Nemanja Vidic, Patrice Evra, Darren Fletcher, John O’Shea, Paul Scholes, Michael Carrick, Ryan Giggs, Carlos Tevez.

Good luck for the lads and we wish you enjoy tomorrow game.
