You’ve heard of Jimmy Greaves of course, everyone has even though he stopped playing nearly 40 years ago. Greaves was one of the greatest goal scorers England has ever produced which makes his recent comments in The People newspaper about Wayne Rooney being photographed smoking a cigarette quite interesting. And Roo is not the only current Manchester United player to enjoy having a puff as photos of Dimitar Berbatov and Federico Macheda clearly show. The world cup winner argues that it never did him any harm nor will it damage anyone else. In a piece titled “What’s so bad about Wayne Rooney having a fag?” Greaves presents a highly debatable point of view but guess what? It’s an opinion that this long time smoker totally agrees with!

Football fans can really leave you scratching your head at their attitude sometimes. While Manchester United is without doubt the leading motivator of our passion for it, football itself is surely far bigger than one club and its players. When the greatest show on earth that the World Cup has become arrives every four years therefore, you would think that club rivalries can be put to one side for a month.

One day Patrice Evra will write a book. He has an inspirational story to tell by a footballer who offers a rare insight into life at Old Trafford under the guidance of Sir Alex Ferguson. Evra is a wonderful story teller who articulates as well as anyone what it means to play for Manchester United and arguably the world's greatest manager. Fluent in five languages and now working hard to master Korean so that he can converse with his close friend Ji-Sung Park, he tackles a large variety of subjects. This is a lengthy, exclusive interview by Matt Lawton which was published in the Daily Mail on May 1st 2010.
