Eric Cantona has likened leaving Manchester United to ‘quitting’ a heroin habit. The Frenchman said he had rarely returned to Old Trafford because he found it so hard to leave in the first place. He admitted that “If you are a heroin addict and you’ve gone through the agonies of withdrawal, you don’t go back and start hanging out with your dealer. I found leavingManchesterUnited very, very hard.”

But was it? Just as many will argue that the infamous kung fu-style kick on a fan in the stands by another Frenchman was even more astonishing. Who can ever forget that breathtaking moment?
Perhaps more than any other club, Manchester United has been blessed with many leaders over the years. Not all of them were club captains but legends like Bill Foulkes, Bobby Charlton, Martin Buchan, Bryan Robson, Steve Bruce, Eric Cantona, Roy Keane, Gary Neville and Rio Ferdinand immediately come to mind, all had the great leadership qualities which played a major role in guiding the club to so much success. Current skipper Nemanja Vidic can now be added to that list. Since coming to Old Trafford from Spartak Moscow five years ago, the big Serbian central defender has developed into a colossus who is one of the favourites to pick up this season's PFA Player of the Year award in the next few weeks. Vidic spoke with Gemma Thompson from Inside United magazine, where he gave his views on being a Red.

If you are anything like me, reading a good book on a lazy Sunday is one of the most enjoyable times of the week – unless you have a game to watch which in this day and age happens more often than I would like. Call me an old fart if you want but a 3pm kick off on a Saturday afternoon is what I grew up with and freely admit that I yearn for the return of those long gone days. For those who may feel the same way, Truly Reds will therefore attempt to review one of the many Manchester United related books each Sunday which may tempt you to go out an get for a relaxing weekend read.

Chris Dillow has a great article (link here – would recommend reading all of it) that considers the revolution taking place in Tunisia at the moment, and how the events over there may serve as an inspiration for others and create a “domino effect” around the world with regards to the cause of the disposal of dictators and autocrats in favour or democracy and freedom.

I wouldn’t normally comment on such matters because in no way am I qualified to blog on international politics (even on football is debatable!), I try to keep my opinion on such areas to a minimum and leave the debate to the more informed Oliver Kamm’s and Noam Chomsky’s of this world, but I think that the ideas that Chris puts forward can be linked to the MUST inspired anti-Glazer movement in a way.

Resurrected old/new Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish came to Old Trafford on Sunday and while he did not exactly Walk Alone back to Anfield, there was certainly no Triumphant March from Aida blaring in the background! As a matter of fact, he was quick to come out with the expected after match bitter mutterings of 'that penalty was a joke' and 'it was never a red card'. Nothing unusual, it's what Scousers do best whenever they get beaten - which has become the norm this season. I fully understand that this is a Manchester United blog and what happens at Liverpool should be none of our business BUT before I get accused of being 'obsessed' by Liverpool - another common Scouse boast, stay with me as I explain why there may well be a lesson for United in all of this.
