Carrick has missed the last six matches since breaking a bone in his foot against Liverpool a month ago.

The 27-year-old had only started one game before his Anfield sadness but manager Sir Alex Ferguson says he will almost surely be back on time to face the Baggies.

“We are expecting Michael to be available next week. He is almost back to full training now,” said the United boss.

Meanwhile, Owen’s frustrating long-term problem with knee tendonitis has improved.

He has fought the injury on and off ever since he arrived from Bayern Munich in the summer of 2007.

It struck him down again on the eve of the double winner’s pre-season tour of South Africa. Despite treatment and injections throughout last term, the problem returned during the close season and forced the 27-year-old to skip the tour.

His delayed return began with an appearance as sub against Liverpool and starts against Villarreal and Chelsea.

We hope the two players stay away from injuries.

The 19-year-old Brazilian midfielder was taken to hospital. It was expected the Possebon has broken his leg, but United have confirmed that he has not broken his leg.

“It looked a really bad one. For the kid to make his first team debut and get an injury like that it was pretty horrendous,” said Fergie.

“For 10 minutes everyone was numb about it. The thing about these challenges it is always the case that the opponent claims his innocence.

“One of their bench is out screaming that it wasn’t a sending off and there was nothing wrong with the player.

“But at least they apologised. Gareth Southgate understood the gravity of it. He was very, very apologetic. But it was a terrible tackle.

“I have seen a video of it and you don’t want to see that again. We just hope it is not really, really serious, but it looks bad.”

Was the Ref decision correct?

Manchester United manger’s Sir Alex Ferguson is having tough time to select who is going to replace Nemanja Vidic before Chelsea game this Sunday at Stamford Bridge. Vidic was sent off before the end of Liverpool game last Saturday and his position in central defence will be vacant.

During last season, Fergie has simple decision to shift Wes Brown to the center and let John O’shea or Hargreaves to fill the right side if Rio Ferdinand or Vidic were missing a game. But Villarreal game let Sir Alex Ferguson believes Jonny Evans is mature enough to play at top level.

“I have a decision to make on Sunday,” he said. “I need to work out whether I go with Evans’ ability but lack of experience or whether I opt for Wes’ experience and Gary at full-back.
“Gary was only playing his second competitive match last night but he did very well.
“That will bring him on if I decide to play him on Sunday but Evans was excellent as well.”
In my opinion, Gary Neville was slow during Villarreal game and against fast team like Chelsea it will be difficult for the skipper as he is only playing his third game after coming back from injury.
So Evans will be a good choice to fill Vidic gap, or other decision can be made is to shift Brown to the center and let John O’shea playing as a right-back.

Do you think Evans should replace Vidic?

Manchester United agreed to pay £30 millions to buy their long term target Dimitar Berbatov from Tottenham Spurs. According to Alkhaleej newspaper in UAE, Manchester United have agreed to pay Spurs asking price with an extra £3 millions so they withdraw any case about United illegal attempts to sign the Bulgarian striker from the court.

However, our team panel stayed yesterday till midnight to find any news about Berbatov signing, there were no clear news. While some of the press release available today reported that a deal to be completed today after Berbatov passes medical. Stuart Mathieson from Manchester evening suggests Berbatov will move to Manchester United by midnight to end one of the longest transfer saga in England this season.

Berbatov wasn’t at Stamford Bridge yesterday for Tottenham’s 1-1 draw with Chelsea and Spurs coach Gus Poyet said after the game that the press will know tomorrow if Berbatov has played his last game with Tottenham.

Now, Hull City manager Phil Brown hopes that United completes Berbatov deal, so his £7millions offer to sign Fraizer Campbell will be accepted by Sir Alex Ferguson.

The Tigers, who had the 20-year-old Yorkshireman on loan last season, wants to strength their forward by adding Campbell and manager Phil Brown says: “Hopefully we’ll get the thumbs up and be able to move on Fraizer.”

Do you think Berbatov will finally be at Old Trafford?

Manchester United super star Cristiano Ronaldo believes he can play football again by the start of October, three to six weeks ahead of expected schedule. The Portuguese winger who named as the best player in Europe by UEFA did ankle surgery in July and initial forecasts were that he could be out of action until late October and November.

But Ronaldo has started jogging and he is making good progress. Ronaldo believes that his age is helping him and he is looking forward to be back and help Sir Alex’s squad in their campaign to retain the Premiership and the Champions League.

“I am feeling fine. I am feeling really good and my recovery is going well,” the 23-year-old said.
“I am more than happy with my progress and I hope to be back playing for United by the end of September - that is my target and it is a realistic one.
“It has been frustrating to miss the start of the Premier League season but I am pleased with my rehabilitation and, hopefully, I’ll be ready soon.”

Will United miss Ronaldo on September?

Hargreaves, who will not appear in next England friendly game against Czech Republic, is hungry to play and help United to win more trophies, however Sir Alex thinks Hargreaves should take it easy as United are preparing to win next game against Portsmouth.

“I am working on my fitness every day and while I have not joined in with the lads yet, hopefully it will happen this week.

“Whether I am fit for Portsmouth or the match after that, the most important thing is I am healthy for the rest of the season.”

Meanwhile, Manchester United won against Chelsea 1-0, a friendly game between both clubs reserves teams. Danny Drinkwater scored the only goal for United on 59 minutes. Also United skipper Gary Neville has started the game with Ben Foster returning to action after an injury he has during the first team trip to Africa.

Manchester United started the 2008-2009 season with a 1-1 home draw against Kevin Keegan side’s Newcastle United. Sir Alex Ferguson side was missing main players like Ronaldo and Tevez who supposed to start the game but he was ruled out because of a family bereavement in Argentina, leaving Sir Alex to start with Rooney and Campbell up front, meaning that there would no strikers on the bench.

United started the game attacking Newcastle goal. The first thread became the third minute when Fraizer Campbell was fouled by Fabricio Coloccini to give United a free-kick which was taken by Ryan Giggs. Giggs Kick was blocked by James Milner’s arm inside the box, but referee Mike Riley did not blow for a penalty which could change the game for United. After 3 minutes of that Wayne Rooney crossed the ball to Campbell who met the ball with a nice aerial head but Given was lucky that the ball somehow hit his head. Then a good effort from Scholes was blocked by Given when the Irish keeper saved his center shoot On the 17th minute.

On 22 minutes Obafemi Martins opened the score for Newcastle when he converted James Milner’s corner from the right side by heading the ball into the far corner of Van der Sar goal. However, Manchester United needed only 2 minutes to equalize by Fletcher when he met Campbell pass after Rooney cross by a quick run to the near post and finish it past Given who has no chance to clear the ball.

Newcastle defender has made an impressive display to clear away most of United chances to win the game. Coloccini and former United man’s Nicky Butt have blocked dangerous chances by Campbell in the first minutes and Rooney in the 2nd half.

Manchester United could have win the game in the last fifteen minutes but all Vidic efforts to score from corners have been gone away as Newcastle defenders were in their day to clear any threat.

In the stoppage time, the referee was once again denied a penalty for Manchester United when young Brazilian substitution Rafael was tackled by Nicky Butt on the edge of the Newcastle United box. The referee only gave a free kick which was taken by Wayne Rooney over the wall just wide of Given’s left-hand post where the referee blown his whistle for full time end the game 1-1.

It is clear that Manchester United are missing injured players during the game and Sir Alex Ferguson should not only buy a striker, but also another back up midfielder If Owen Hargreaves and Ronaldo injuries will take more time.

According to the Mirror, the Angola international reported for pre-season training with a suspected broken metatarsal. He was on the brink of kicking off his career at Old Trafford, however he been sent on loan to Panathinaikos due to the failure of his work permit application.

Manucho, 25, was scheduled to play in United’s tour of South Africa and try his luck to break into the first team for next season. He will go for X-rays to assess the damage and may be out for weeks. Now Sir Alex should splash the cash and look into the transfer market to sign another striker.
