Many reports agree that today Spartak Moscow have accepted a £15 million bid from Tottenham to sign Russian striker Roman Pavlyuchenko who was among the stars of Euro 2008. This signing by spurs manager Juande Ramos suggests that Pavlyuchenko has been bought as a replacement for Berbatov who is looking to move north to play with Manchester United.
Berbatov’s agent Emil Danchev has been in London this week, but there were no meetings held yesterday with Tottenham’s chairman Daniel Levy.
With Spurs aggressive to send Berbatov to the reserves team unless Manchester United bid an offer of £30 million, Fifpro, the international union for professional footballers, yesterday confirmed that the Bulgarian could effectively buy out his contract next year. But Sir Alex Ferguson is looking to add a striker before the end of the transfer window.
So the possible move of Pavlyuchenko to Tottenham and the meeting held between Berbatov, his agent and Juande Ramos can see the end of one of the longest transfer saga in English Premier League this season during the upcoming days.
But if the transfer of Berbatov collapse, it is unlikely to see another new striker as Sir Alex Ferguson has no other options because many targeted players have already played a game in the Uefa champions league and Fergie is known for his likeness of challenges, so he will have no problem if he does not get a new striker, which is very good news for out of favor Luis Saha who is looking to stay with United and prove that he is good enough to play at Old Trafford.
Owen Hargreaves told Manchester United fans that he is recovering well from his injury and looking to be back to action very soon. The former Bayern Munich star felt the injury in his knee at the end of the season. It was the same injury which kept him out of action at the start of last season.
Hargreaves, who will not appear in next England friendly game against Czech Republic, is hungry to play and help United to win more trophies, however Sir Alex thinks Hargreaves should take it easy as United are preparing to win next game against Portsmouth.
“I am working on my fitness every day and while I have not joined in with the lads yet, hopefully it will happen this week.
“Whether I am fit for Portsmouth or the match after that, the most important thing is I am healthy for the rest of the season.”
Meanwhile, Manchester United won against Chelsea 1-0, a friendly game between both clubs reserves teams. Danny Drinkwater scored the only goal for United on 59 minutes. Also United skipper Gary Neville has started the game with Ben Foster returning to action after an injury he has during the first team trip to Africa.
Sir Alex Ferguson may announce the fourth striker who will join the squad after Newcastle game today. Fergie who looked stressed as he is only operating with Carlos Tevez during last two games with inexperienced Fraizer Campbell on the bench, is looking to add a fourth skillful striker to add more strength and challenge to United front.
It is most likely that the striker will be Dimitar Berbatov. The report suggested yesterday that the Bulgarian striker has hand in a transfer request to open the way to his move away from the White Hart Lane with either Manchester United or Barcelona to be his next destination.
