After Wayne Rooney great form yesterday in Slovenia game, former England and Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer believes the Manchester United striker is the man who can lead England to win the World Cup for the second time since 1966.
Shearer, All-time top scorer in the Premier League, has praised England coach Fabio Capello for trusting Rooney’ abilities and giving him a free role inside the pitch. Shearer believes Rooney character will be a strong factor to win next year World Cup in South Africa.
Shearer said: “Wayne Rooney is a pivotal player for England, there’s no doubt about that.
“He’s a special talent who has been criticized in the past for not scoring as many goals as he should, but he brings a lot more to the table than that.
“It is clear that he brings more than goals to England – he brings work rate, he brings commitment, he brings assists. Over the next few years Capello will continue to build his team around Rooney if he keeps playing in this way.”
