It seems Manchester City are paying money for the press around the world to involve Manchester United in any story related to their SMALL CLUB. Today The Mirror football just comes with another joke! After buying, under Man United nose according to their poor fans, Carlos Tevez who they believe will take them to the glory, they put Stephen Ireland name as a potential signing for the Champions of England.
The funniest thing in this story is showing Ireland and Man City as a club who Man United should work hard to get any of those players who are wearing that dirty light blue shirt.
Mirror wrote:“Sir Alex Ferguson hoped that the 23-year-old Irishman could be tempted away from Eastlands because Mark Hughes has an embarrassment of midfield riches with Gareth Barry, Nigel de Jong and Vincent Kompany in his squad.
“But United were told that there was no chance of City selling Ireland – their current player of the year – at any price.
Who need Stephen Ireland?! We got many players in the middle (Scholes, Carrick, Anderson…) and If Sir Alex Ferguson is looking to sign a midfielder, he can splash cash to sign any player like Xavi, Gattuso or whoever!
Now, eveyone is waiting the derby!
I personally would love to have Stephen in the Utd team, he would work excellently with a midfield base of Fletcher and/or Carrick and would offer cultured dynamism through the centre that we have been lacking this season. That’s not to say we would ever be able to get him away from City, I don’t think selling one of the top midfielders in the premiership would go down to well with their fans.
Don’t let the club that a top class player represents colour your appreciation of his talent.
Also, Gattuso or Xavi to Utd? Gattuso has looked a pale shadow of his former quality the last couple of seasons and Xavi would never want to leave Barca and Barca would never want to sell their most important player.
That above should read ‘Stephen Ireland’ btw.
No matter how good a player he is I would never refer to City players by the first name only!
Point taken Ant.. Thx for your comment… when mentionin Xavi and Gattuso.. i was referin to the value they got within their team..
cheers
I too would like to have Ireland in the team though I doubt its gonna happen.
