Why am I not surprised? It was always going to be THE headline. And sure enough there it was in The Sun on Wednesday, within a couple of days after the Wayne Rooney story broke. “Real Madrid To Offer Manchester United Forward Wayne Rooney Escape Route From English Press” it screamed before continuing with “Real Madrid president Florentino Perez could be set to offer Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney an escape route out of English football by tabling a massive offer for the striker, reports suggest.”
So there you have it, Roo is on his way to the Bernabeau to join Jose Mourinho and his old partner in crime Cristiano Ronaldo. At least that’s what we’re told because Perez COULD be set to make an offer according to SUGGESTED reports! But wait there’s more. The tabloid also reported a day earlier that there was a “Roo contract screw-up” and that his “Manchester United future has not been sorted out.”
That has to be it then because The Sun revealed “Rooney is yet to iron out a new Old Trafford deal. This is despite assurances given to boss Alex Ferguson the England striker will sign a contract worth £140,000 a week. With Rooney now involved in a sex scandal, concerns are mounting over the delay.”
And that’s not all folks “An insider said “If Rooney gets to next summer without signing a new deal his transfer value will plummet, United will lose millions and he will be able to join any club he fancies in the world. The former Everton striker has little over 18 months to run on his current deal at Old Trafford but contract negotiations have yet to commence and los Blancos’ supremo Perez could be set to hijack the renewal by enticing Rooney to the Spanish capital.”
Just in case Rooney’s fans at Old Trafford are not yet distraught by now, The Sun goes on to make even more revelations “United have failed to come forward – even though Ferguson likes to tie up his stars who have less than two years to go on their deals with new contracts. Rooney has 18 months left on his. His first meeting was due to take place two weeks ago with club chief executive David Gill but is yet to happen.” it says.
The report then continues to explain that “Rooney is United’s flagship player whose image is wanted for use in all advertising and to entice potential new sponsors but that image has been shattered over the last month – a factor set to affect negotiations. The club will not want to be seen as rewarding their star player at a time when his position as a role model has crumbled.”
The tabloid concludes by stating that “Now stories have come out about him having sex with a prostitute while Coleen was pregnant with their son Kai. His future with his devastated wife is the subject of national debate and there are fears at United that Rooney may turn his back on the Premier League and escape abroad.”
A follow up Sun report can now be expected any day stating that the cunning Ferguson was well aware of the drama laying ahead with his star striker and pre empted the problem by going to Portugal and spending £7.4 million on an unknown to replace him.
That will be no less believable than the garbage reported in the tabloid during the last week.
Do you believe there’s a real danger of Rooney going to Madrid?
