“Greatest right-back in English history and one of United’s true great servants, a true legend of the game. Might not be liked by many opposition fans, but he was loved at United. Sorry to see you go, Gary.”

“Fantastic career, and fair play to him, it takes a real man to do it like this and take action during a football season. He is up there with the best servants this club has had, and probably will ever have. He was a fantastic footballer too and will be sorely missed. Hopefully he stays on in a coaching capacity because his experience and know-how will always be an asset to this club.”
