Queiroz could be on the way back to Old Trafford

In a surprise move which could have consequences for Sir Alex Ferguson’s assistant Mike Phelan, former Portugal coach Carlos Queiroz could be on his way back to Old Trafford for the THIRD time. The Portuguese coach was sacked as national team manager last week after he was banned for six months by Portugal’s anti doping authority. He was alleged to have insulted drug testers as they arrived at Portugal’s pre World Cup training camp ahead of their departure to South Africa.

In Defence of Michael Carrick

Much like Dimitar Berbatov, Michael Carrick is a player that seems to divide opinion amongst the United faithful. Ask many fans for their opinion of the midfielder, and the first response you will probably receive is “big-game bottler”, a reputation that was firmly cemented for Carrick following his performance against Barcelona in the 2009 Champions League final.

Zidane rates Paul Scholes “the complete footballer”

Three successive man of the match performances by veteran midfielder Paul Scholes have caught the attention of France legend Zinedine Zidane. Scholes has made a sizzling start to the new season turning on man of the match displays for Manchester United in the 3-1 defeat of Chelsea in the Community Shield, Newcastle and then Fulham in the Premier League. England manager Fabio Capello is understood to still want the midfield maestro included in his Euro 2004 squad.
