Manchester United have suffered a shock 1-0 defeat at the hands of Burnley at Turf Moor. The Champions were expecting a comfortable victory at their North West rivals, but the Clarets had other ideas.
United started off the better side and Michael Owen missed a fantastic chance to put the Red Devils ahead after just two minutes. Burnley started to come more in to the game and in the 19th minute striker Robbie Blake fired home a volley to send Turf Moor crazy.
United struggled to get back in to the game, but were given a way back in to the game when scorer Blake brought down Patrice Evra, just before the break. Michael Carrick stepped up to take the penalty, but Burnley keeper Brian Jensen managed to save the spot-kick.
Burnley continued to push forward in the second half and Robbie Blake sent a free-kick wide from 20 yards. The Clarets keeper Jensen then pulled off two fine stops first denying Ji-Sung Park, before blocking at the feet of Ryan Giggs. United kept plugging away trying to find an equaliser, but they couldn’t find a way pass the resolute Burnley backline. Questions will now be asked about the depth and strength of the United squad.
