In one of my previous articles I said how Ryan Giggs run the wing like a 25 year old, rather than 35. Even though we had most of the possession in the 60 minutes prior to the great man coming on, there weren’t too many clear cut chances for the reds, Antonio Valencia probably guilty of the best chance.
Then on came the ever green Ryan Giggs, at 35 years old has more ability in his RIGHT leg then Nani has in both, he changed the course of the game yet again, running the flank, and playing a part in both of our goals….
Against Man City, in the second half Giggs put on a performance, that was as good as any he has played in a United shirt, every once in a while these players come along that seem to get better with age, their like a fine wine, Teddy Sheringham another that was the same, it’s as though they know they have not got long to retirement so want to go out on a swan song….
If Paolo Maldini could play at left back into his 40’s then why can’t we rely on the greatest winger this great club has produced or even signed since the great late George Best.
I know the pace of Serie A is not as quick as the premiership, but I can’t see any problem with Giggs playing the left wing role until he is 40, players are so much fitter now, eat properly, diet properly and Giggs is a model professional, ever since Sir Alex Ferguson banged Lee Sharpe‘s door down when him and Giggs were having a party, there has not been a peak out of Ryan.
He still has the pace, he still has the trickery, he still has the composure, he still has the desire and hunger to win, and he still has the vision for that pass, that not many people can see, probably only Paul Scholes out of the United side at present would not of panicked and just put a hopeful ball into the City area, instead Giggs just calmly found Michael Owen and he firmly dispatched his finish past the helpless Given.
I think we need Giggs on the flank, Nani for all his pace and trickery, lacks the final piece in the jigsaw, he doesn’t poses the qualities that Giggs does, he doesn’t seem to get his head up in the final third and pick out a pass for someone, he seems to hold onto the ball, just that one more touch….I think Giggs could play 70 minutes game in game out Saturday to Saturday on the left flank.
It will be a sad day when the great man has to retire, I would say he is the greatest player I have seen pull on the red jersey in my life time watching Man United, I just hope that Sir Alex plays him more and more on the flank, as I think we are desperately lacking there when THAT BOY GIGGSY doesn’t play, let’s just hope it’s not for at least another 5 years……..
