That 7-2 demolition of AC Milan over two legs was the sort of highly professional performance that fans and the whole of Europe have come to expect from whatever side Sir Alex Ferguson decides to select. It did not take a genius to predict that Wayne Rooney would dominate the headlines with his total of four goals but there was clearly far more than the Roo factor involved.
Every red played a significant role in those two polished displays including goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar who did whatever was required on the few occasions he was tested. Perhaps the surprise package for most United fans however was the often underrated South Korean midfielder Ji-sung Park.

Back in the early 1950’s Manchester United made a far sighted decision which had major ramifications for the club at the time and has continued to produce handsome dividends until this very day. Their legendary manager Sir Matt Busby had concluded that rather than spend large sums of money on big name players, better long term results would be produced by recruiting youngsters just out of school and developing them himself. An excellent performance from Manchester United saw Ferguson’s side knock out AC Milan 7-2 on aggregate and 4-0 on the evening. Whilst Milan failed to meet expectations over the course of the two legs, Manchester United showed their superiority from the start with Wayne Rooney’s 13th minute goal, which will be filed into his ever increasing headed goals collection this season.
