Goalless draw even with Ronaldo, Man United vs Villarreal

Wayne Rooney after Villarreal gameManchester United kicked off UEFA Champions League campaign with a disappointment goalless draw against Spanish side Villarreal. United were dominating the game but were unlucky to score because Villarreal goalkeeper’s Diego Lopez was on his day.

Dimitar Berbatov failing to recover from the knee injury he sustained at Liverpool gave Nani the chance to start the game. The surprise name in the squad was Park Ji song, the Korean international has just came back from an injury and everyone has noticed that Park’s fitness level would not allow him to play 45 minutes!

The referee also did some wrong decision. The first one was on 14 minutes whan Park Ji song went to the ground under a challenge from Eguren but the referee waved on. Replays showed it was a clear penalty.

Then it was Tevez chance to score, he has a nice run from the right of the box and he fired decent shot. It was wavering out from the keeper but Diego Lopez pushed it out for a corner to prevent United from taking the lead.

Park was brought down in the Villarreal box again on 38th minute when Joan Capdevila challenged him and once again the referee did not blow his whistle.

In the second half, Sir Alex has did changes to his squad and the fans were happy to see Cristiano Ronaldo at Old Trafford. Ronaldo tried his best to help the team, but his touch was not like before due to his four months period without football.

The most unlucky moment came when Evans saw a standing header go the wrong side of the post. Ronaldo in the 65th minute had a great chance to score when Tevez cross reached him near the penalty spot. But the substitute’s timing was out and he miscued a first-time volley, hitting the ball into the ground and into the grateful arms of Lopez.

Sir Alex Ferguson was happy about Cristiano Ronaldo comeback,  “I think he realises what a great club he is at and how loyal the fans are. He will take great encouragement from that. We made a lot of good chances, we played really good football, and we played with speed. I have no complaints.” Fergie said after the game.

It was disappointment result for us, but we can be happy as the team has played well and with Berbatov come back to play against Chelsea, a win is very possible at Stamford Bridge.
