
According to Bordeaux president Jean-Louis Triaud Manchester United are close to signing their young star Gabriel Obertan. After missing out on Lyon youngster Karim Benzema, United now look likely to capture another young French star.
The youngster is highly rated and made his Bordeaux debut at the age of just 17, but struggled to get into the first team last season and was loaned out to Lorient were he made 15 appearances scoring just once. He is a French under-21 international and other major European clubs such as AC Milan, Inter and Arsenal have expressed an interest in securing his signature. The youngster can play on the left wing and also upfront.
Triaud told L’Equipe: “There is a very strong likelihood that the deal will go ahead,”
“Manchester United want to sign him and, for our part, we would be delighted to see Gabriel playing for such a prestigious club.
“We will make the official announcement when the time is right.”
Although he isn’t the sort of signing that United fans were hoping for, he has huge potential and could develop into a world class player. Sir Alex Ferguson is likely to add more players to his squad before the start of the season, with some big names players on his wishlist.
