  1. Man city are rubbish.

I hate them because it makes me feel like a proper fan! Even though I have never been to Manchester!!

  2. There’s a couple of comments here!
@Slacker, “FOAD Rag Scum” has to be the most intelligent comment on record!
@Boris, do you mean obsessed with 35 years of City failures?
@Blue fans, Hmm, the trophies have been coming since 1976, where are they?

  3. @The Boss, I think we have collected 29 cups, during that period.I also believe they have spent close to 1/2 a Billion pounds in the last 4 years. For what?
Its always, its coming.Thats what the Vicar said to the Dutchess. But he still was impotent. 🙂

  4. No Citizen, unlike City, Manchester United belongs to the world, something which no other Premier League club can genuinely claim

  5. @Bert We would have baked you a cake , mate but we couldna dig out 35 candles.
Its more fun just to laugh. Innit. 🙂

  6. United belongs to the world?

Funniest comment I have ever heard. Sounds like something you tell yourself at night to justify being a United “fan”.

  7. Have a look at the stats RedScot. After the same number of games as last season, City are on exactly the same number of points as last season and unlikely to get into the Champions League! So what’s the point of spending all that money?

  8. So you don’t live in Manchester and you’re not from Manchester. Are you even English? Have you ever been to Trafford Borough?

  9. @Cockney Red, It means quite clearly United is the biggest Club in the World, its a “global ” brand. I am not from Manchester either, but most City supporters are not either. Are they not generally from Stockport?
You will find 70- 300 Million United fans world wide.
Check out Delliote, the biggest club in the world.
I dont need to tell myself anything, about my love for United.

  10. @cockney red, in case you have never noticed, United has a far bigger fan base world wide than ANY OTHER Premier League club including the small town Liverpool, City and any other. And by the way, why do you PRETEND to be a United fan from London?

  11. @ Redscot

Only weak minded people latch themselves onto successful clubs, just so they can feel like they have some success in their sad little lives watching United win trophies hundreds and thousands of miles away while sitting in their armchairs.

  12. I know Boss its laughable. That was the “sorta” point I was making. No progress.
They are planning to spend a Billion pounds around “Wastelands” to improve the area, and expand the staduim. Why they cant fill it just now. Laughable.
Any way. We could be here all night debating this, its a no “contest”.
And was’nt Wayne’s goal rather special, and Mike Summerbee a total numpty.
    Says it all really.BITTER. 🙂
Laters. Keep it Red, or you are dead. 😉

  13. How dumb is that comment Citizen? Does it prove anything? NO, I don’t live in Manchester, I’m NOT from Manchester, I am not EVEN ENGLISH, So what? YES, I have been to Manchester and Old Trafford twice, so what? You sound like the many xenophobic rednecks that the UK is saddled with. Grow up.

  14. @ COCKney red (never been to a game)
So according to you, fans can only be from the same region as the club they support? An utterly illogical statement, but I’ll go along with it. So, lets only count the “real” fans. Your club has half the stadium empty, while OT is almost always completely full, despite nearly double the capacity of yours. That means United has more “real” fans than Shitty. What’s the point of deluding yourself about the definition of fans if you’re still going to lose out?

PS: As for your name, it’s no surprise you’ve never been to a game. I wouldn’t want to watch Shitty play either.

  15. @ Cockney Red, so you are calling me names.I am 19 years old and more than capable, of dealing with you.Trust that.Dont come on a United blog and try and pick a fight with me.You will not win.Trust that.I dont exchange insults over the internet.Key board warrior, with no doubt balls like a spacehopper.
    spurious wee upstart. 🙂
    Goodnight. 🙂

  16. You need to know what you’re talking about before making stupid comments cockney red. Millions of United fans around the world began supporting the club when it was on it’s knees and at its lowest ebb in 1958 NOT when it began to win trophies. Some glory hunters!

  17. So it seems Frank and RedScot are not from Manchester and are plastics, just like the significant proportion of their support. united will never be as Manc as City. City will always be the peoples club of Manchester.

  18. You can keep crying about the local support (a fight which United still wins), while United continues to be the bigger club: in terms of trophies, fan base and mentality.
Yeah, yeah. You’re a MASSIVE club with a REAL FAN BASE (read: not enough to fill wee little wastelands) and will win everything IN THE FUTURE.

  19. @Citizen, If I told you i used to be a Season Ticket holder, 6 years ago.Prior to the Glazer taking over my Club.I travelled from the West coast of Scotland, bye hich hiking to as many games as i could.Because I am desperately poor, in a financial sense of my income, I have and had at the time and now.I still travel to away games in the same, way bye hitch hiking.Dont call me a “Plastic”.
When you dont know nothing about me, or Frank.
He can stick up for himself.
As I can stick up for myself.
Show us your season ticket at Wastelands? You cant can you? Plastic. 😀
    Off to the pub.

  20. So the two United fans making all the noise are not even residents of Manchester, and one is a teenager.

    You couldn’t make it up.

Those of us born and bred in Manchester, have friends, neighbours and close relatives who support both City and United, and are generally respectful of each other, as we know if you go too far you may well get a slap, or a sex ban, or uncomfortable atmosphere when there’s no need.

You two and your buddies need to calm down, and behave like the real people of Manchester do, and recognise when to stop gloating – it’s not banter anymore.

  21. @RedScot

You said you *used* to be a season ticket holder. So you’re not anymore? I live in Manchester and support the only club in Manchester. If you travelled from West Scotland, why not support your local club in your own country?

  22. Having lived 17,000 klms away for almost the whole of my life, I at least did get to Old Trafford and to a United Cup Final in 1983. Does that make me less passionate about a club that I began supporting as a 14 year old when it was almost destroyed in 1958? Does that REALLY make me a glory hunter? Am I a Manc? NO of course not, do I really care? No I don’t because I repeat, United no longer simply belongs to Manchester. 10, 20, 30 million fans world wide – whatever figures you want to believe, shows that it’s a far, far bigger club than that.

  23. I’d be suprised if most of City’s fanbase are brought up as blues (due to where they live or family ties) and have followed City throughout their lives. Conversely, most rags (certainly those who live outside of Manchester) can pretty much pinpoint when they became a ‘fan’ – they made a conscious decision to support/follow/be seen to follow United.

It’s some of the mugs on these sort of message boards etc which give the real United fans (of which I will happily admit there are a few) a bad name. Most United fans I know are happy to enjoy a bit of banter about our respective clubs and will admit (often begrudgingly) that the progress at City is for all to see.

  24. @goater, I don’t need to repeat myself, see my earlier comments about supporting a club ‘based on league tables’ Besides, since when have clubs ONLY been supported by people who live in their town? It’s the thinking of small and narrow minded people don’t you think?

  25. Till_I_Die Says: Your comment is awaiting moderation.

Most United fans I know are happy to enjoy a bit of banter about our respective clubs and will admit (often begrudgingly) that the progress at City is for all to see. It seems pretty obvious that, to some of the fools on here, progress is soley defined by winning trophies and the fact that City’s expenditure has not yet translated into silverware means that we are not making progress. The truth of course is that it pains you too much to admit that we are making progress at quite a rate and sooner rather than later we will be genuine contenders for trophies.

And to think some of you have the audacity to call us deluded. Laughable.

  26. There you go again with your dumb stupidity and assumptions goater. Since when has the MLS had anything to do with Australia? Just shows the small mentality of so many blues who think that the world begins and ends at Eastlands. Never forget that Manchester and England are only a miniscule part of our world.

  27. Even though we haven’t won anything in 35 years, I think I speak for all Blues when I say I wouldn’t swap one minute of supporting City for a whole lifetime being a rag. Unlike you, we don’t make the decision about who to support based on what the league table says. Most of you only support the rags cos they won the league the year Euro 96 was on although none of you would admit it and tell all your mates that your Dad used to live in Manchester 30 years ago. When you weren’t winning anything (pre 92 so most of you will have bo idea) your attendances were lower an ours are now now as most of the glory hunters supported Liverpool in those days.

  29. Talk about being small minded goater, “That may be the case Frank, but it’s my part of the world and not yours” AND “To most fans supporting their team is about their local identity” Are you still living in the 19th century? Have you yet accepted the fact that football is a WORLD game? If you’re only concerned about your local identity go and support Stockport or FC United. Even your benefactor Sheik and CEO Gary Crook has made it their goal to turn City into a world wide brand. What happens to your ‘local identity’ and ‘my part of the world’ then? As for the “Munich card’, what do you expect? You know as well as I do that millions of football fans around the world became instant Manchester United fans on that day – whether City liked it or not. Accept the obvious reality.

  30. It’s easy to win things when you can do “what you like” and get away with it. Supporting United is being the twat who noone wants to talk to on holiday. Manchester is a United free zone and has been for 100 years – long may it continue. With a bit of luck the Glazers will move you to the States so you can play in the MLS and Frank can go to a game. After all United belongs to the world!

  31. Frank, if only you knew what a complete tit of yourself you are making. Going on about how big United is is a stupid and irrelevant argument. To most fans supporting their team is about their local identity. So you have more fans in China than all the other teams put together. Your point is? What right do you have to start getting on your high horse when you have only been to Old Trafford twice in 52 years. And by the way, playing the Munich card is sooo 2000.

  32. That may be the case Frank, but it’s my part of the world and not yours.
My apologies, i hope the Glazerss move you to Oz, it’s further away that the States!

  33. Why don’t United fans acknowledge that their ground is full for Cup games, as they forced to buy the tickets? Why don’t they acknowledge that City are making progress and have massively overhauled their squad in a short period of times. Why are they obsessed enough about us to not only have the banner up in the first place. But to also make a new reference to it every year and waste everyone’s time with silly articles like the one above. There is banter in football, but you lot are talking about us more and more, why? Look to your own club and leave us to it, if it all blows up in our faces you get to gloat and say I told you so, won’t that make you happy.
Most reds are decent sorts, but sorry, most of the same names that write and then comment on this kind of type, are generally plebs of the highest order, fact.

  34. @ Citizen if you followed the blog, which you clearly dont. I hate the “Bigotory” and violence around , Glasgow, during not only old firm matches, but the “In built” hatered.I hate know one.I like banter and fun.
I decided at the age of 8 to leave Scottish football, i was at a game at Tannadice,(DUFC) a Lady in front of me in the fair play enclosure, got a bottle of orange squash, square on her head.Thrown from outside the ground.I thought then, that’s me. I cant do this.!
Is that clear, why i left, Scottish football?

  35. as a city fan i dread the day we get fans like you frank…your trying to make out that your not the typical glory hunting united than , talking about you felt a connection after the munich disaster as a reason to follow united, and miss to mention the fact that united have milked that tragedy for finacial gain for the last 50 years.. evicted the widows of the players out there home..AIG printed on the memorial out side old trafford where they gained extra income on sponsership because of the advertisment are just 2 examples

but your right about united being owned by the world ..capitalism at its worst as united wont even have a poppy printed on its shirt as it might upset this world wide fan base and loose revenues..but its 2 fingers to the community that made them what they are…ctid*

ps..35 years without a trophey..ill take that all day rather than be a united fan ..oh and yes i am from manchester!

  36. Sigh, Frank Frank you were telling me the other week you didn’t have anything to be bitter about…….I think this article says otherwise.
You beat us in the derby due to a wonder goal you’re probably going to win the title and still all you write about is City, sad mate very sad.

  37. I still cannot understand your point MI Postcode. What does any United fan has to be bitter about? 35 years of NOTHING? Yes, we won with a wonder goal in the derby which would not have been needed but for an arse equaliser. Yes I write about City when I see fit just to remind you guys just how bitter you are about not winning anything

  38. You seem to have forgotten one fact polo. Nobody in their right mind will choose to follow City unless they were brought up in a Blue family. Why would they have a reason to? Together with all your City colleagues, you seem to have overlooked the fact that this article was about congratulating City on winning a trophy 35 years ago! You guys ought to be thankful for it. Does anyone of your lot know how to face reality?

  39. You seem to have forgotten one fact polo. Nobody in their right mind will choose to follow City unless they were brought up in a Blue family. Why would they have a reason to?

by this statment frank you seem to be concurring with the fact you and most united fans from around the world only support united because of the tropheys they have won, as most are not old to rememeber the tragedy like you do..and lets not forget manchester city lost people cloese to the club aswell…

  40. I see the debate continued after I’d gone to bed last night with my United supporting wife of twenty five years.

You know how my derby day went?

I watched the game on telly with my cousin, we were optimistic after pulling the goal back courtesy of David Silva’s arse, and I was just saying my Dad said in the World Cup Rooney could trap a ball further than most people can kick it (He’s a Spurs fan of 70 because of the famous double winning side), when Rooney goes and shins in the winner – so it was my fault we got beaten.

    Gutted.

Then my missus comes in from having her hair done with my Daughter, and sings – “2-1, 2-1”.

    That’s it.

We don’t talk about the game after that, because she knows it’s too painful, and realises when City win, I’ll give it back.

Except I won’t because I have to live with United fans in all aspects of my life.

My Mum, bless her, supported United, but is very pleased when City win, because it makes three of her sons happy, so now she’s nicely on the fence. Amazing how many people are like her in Manchester.

I’d like to ask you Reds to imagine how we restrain ourselves, naturally, because we love, respect each other in Manchester, and there are consequences when gloating too much, it’s self-policing.

Football may be a global business, but you guys from far away should respect the passion local fans have for their local teams, for us it’s everyday life.

RedScott, you’re a young man, with a lot to learn, same as we all were at 19. Your blog the ROM, is guilty of some really nasty hate-mongering, I hope you could move on from this, it really doesn’t properly reflect how life is for most City and United fans.

Thanks for the Denis Tueart overhead kick memories anyhow, that was a good day.

  41. @It’s Grim Oop North. That’s precisely why the Tueart photo was dug out of the archives mate. We thought that our cross town Blue neighbours needed some cheering up after Mark Hughes took a point away from Eastlands.

  42. So Frank you have absolutely no connection with Manchester whatsoever. Yet you feel the urge to try bask in the reflective glory of this sports club as if you were personally involved in their success. Well done son.

  43. Please don’t attempt to patronise me Boris. I’m not basking in anybody’s glory, I just happen to have passionately supported the same club for 55 years of my life through all its tragedies and triumphs.
