The big freeze may have cost Manchester United it’s place at the top of the table simply because Blackpool’s 110 year old Bloomfield Road Stadium is the only one in the Premier League not equipped with an undersoil heating system. The disruption and inconvenience caused by that postponement should not be acceptable in this day and age. United and its fans happened to be the ones to suffer this weekend but it could have just as easily been any other club.

Just as Manchester United reclaimed pole position in the Premier League for the first time in nine months, they look likely to be forced into playing catch up football once again after their scheduled visit to Blackpool was called off. Sky Sports reports that despite Blackpools’ best efforts, Bloomfield Road has been deemed unfit for Saturday evening’s meeting due to a frozen pitch.

Blackpool manager Ian Holloway admits to be awaiting the visit of Manchester United on Saturday with a degree of trepidation after having watched the demolition of Blackburn Rovers last weekend but don’t be fooled. The man knows exactly what he’s doing having already shown that his underrated side are capable of matching it with anyone on their day. His aim is very simple “I will be very proud, whatever the score or whatever happens, if we go out and try and do what we do and try and impose ourselves in some way on the game – I will be delighted.” he admitted.
