A move that has been on the cards for most of the season now appears to be imminent after Manchester United accepted a £6m bid from Birmingham City which will take goalkeeper Ben Foster to St Andrews. It will end a difficult period for the England international who failed to take a chance to be first choice at Old Trafford. He made several high profile blunders when deputising for Edwin van der Sar before Christmas allowing the Dutch veteran to reclaim his place once he had recovered from injury.

Among the many benefits of being a Manchester United fan, one of the biggest are the special memories that stays with you during your lifetime. European Cup nights in the Theatre of Dreams are without doubt some of the very best but even amongst those, some nights stand out above others. Each one is memorable in its own way but for pure drama the European Cup Winners Cup quarter final second leg against a Diego Maradona led Barcelona in March 1984 was arguably the best.

Juventus keeper Gianluigi Buffon could be heading for Manchester this summer in one of the biggest transfer deals of the close season and Italian sources believe City are poised to outbid United for a man ranked by many as the world’s number one. There may be not one but TWO stumbling blocks for City however and United’s late victory at Eastlands on Saturday may well scupper any hopes the Blues may have had.
