That horrendous run of injuries which gave Sir Alex Ferguson so many nightmares this time last year are rearing their ugly head once again. Out of the 25 player squad Sir Alex selected at the beginning of the season, eight are either definitely out of contention for the visit to Villa Park on Saturday or are not expected to recover in time. Rooney, Hargreaves, Valencia, and Owen are all unavailable while Evra, Rafael, Anderson and Giggs are highly doubtful to make a full recovery.

Forget about your £200,000 a week footballers, multi million pound transfer deals, 25 year club managers like Sir Alex Ferguson, FIFA President Sepp Blatter’s World Cup and the mega buck television deals. Ask yourselves instead ‘Where will football be without the humble fan?’ You never see any lurid headlines in the newspapers about them unless a handful of alcohol fuelled ones create mayhem like the incidents after the Napoli game in Liverpool a few days ago. Thankfully, for every one of those cretins there are thousands like Manchester United besotted die hard fan Peter Bolton who was recognised by the official club website this week.

Tuesday nights round of international matches involved eleven Manchester United players, nine in Euro 2012 qualifiers and two in friendlies. There were no injuries of any note reported leaving Sir Alex Ferguson with a full contingent of players to choose from for Saturdays visit of West Bromwich Albion.
