Today Manchester United are going to play their first pre-season game against Scottish side Aberdeen at 18:00 GMT. Sir Alex Ferguson used to manage Aberdeen before moving to Old Trafford. He is marking 25 years since winning the European Cup Winners’ Cup with Aberdeen and he will celebrate this event by taking his United squad to Pittodrie for a pre-season friendly. The Pittodrie match marks 25 years since Sir Alex Ferguson led the Dons to glory in the European Cup Winners’ Cup against Real Madrid.
The United squad for the friendly will include players who did not play in Euro 2008 and some players from the reserve team and it is as follows:
Amos, Woods; Neville, Brown, Ferdinand, Vidic, O’Shea, Silvestre, J Evans, Simpson; Carrick, Scholes, Fletcher, Hewson, Martin, Gibson, Eagles; Rooney, Giggs, Campbell.
It will be a good chance for last season loaned out players, like Evans, Gibson and Campbell, to show how they progressed during last term and for Chris Eagles to prove that he got the talent to play more first team football.
Aberdeen away is the first of eight pre-season matches. The other games are: 19 July vs Kaizer Chiefs, 22 July vs Orlando Pirates, 26 July sv Chiefs or Pirates, 27 July vs Portsmouth, 2 Aug vs Espanyol, 4 Aug vs Peterborough, 6 Aug vs Juventus.
