
Manchester United have opened talks over a new, improved contract with Marcus Rashford, Sky Sports report.
The English striker has played his 100th game and scored his 26th Premier League goal this weekend at Leicester. That was his fourth since the start of the new year.
Rashford is playing in outstanding form since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s appointment as Manchester United manager. Rashford scored 6 and assisted 2 in the 10 games under Ole, and has been nominated for January Player of the month in the Premier League. He is actually the favorite to win the award, after already being voted as United’s player of the same month.
Rashford’s current contract expires in July 2020 and has a one-year option extension for the club. However, Manchester United’s board does not want to wait and have already opened talks with the 21-year old over his new contract. It is reported that they are negotiating over a long term contract that would double his wages to £150,000 a week with bonuses.
Marcus Rashford is a youth academy graduate an he is with the club since 2005. He played through all youth categories to his first team debut in 2016. It was Lous van Gaal who gave him the first team debut, as a late addition to the first team, after Martial’s warm-up injury before the Europa League game against Midtyilland. Rashford made sure he gets more action as he scored two goals in the 5-1 victory. Since then he is constantly with the first team and is a vital player for the Red Devils. Marcus has 153 appearances for Manchester United in all competitions, scoring 42 goals for the club.
Anthony Martial has also signed a new, five-year contract with the club five days ago. Marcus Rashford and David de Gea are the priorities for United’s board at the moment, as they want to secure the club’s future.
