Why the Old Trafford veterans keep going


Manager Sir Alex Ferguson has copped plenty of flak from some quarters for giving his trio of veterans a further 12 month contract to remain at Old Trafford. Ryan Giggs, Gary Neville and Paul Scholes all came through the Manchester United youth system under the watchful eyes of then youth team coach Eric Harrison but the man who had so much decisive input into their development firmly believes that all three fully deserve to have their careers extended.

Why Ferguson acted to protect Hargreaves


Sir Alex Ferguson is reported to have scuppered Owen Hargreaves’ World Cup dream during a chance meeting with Fabio Capello when the pair bumped into each other at the League Managers’ Association dinner in London last Monday. Up until then Hargreaves was IN England’s 30 man squad but buy by the time Fergie’s conversation with the England coach had concluded five minutes later, Hargreaves was OUT at the expense of Gareth Barry.

Stoke City Review – No fourth title despite 4-0 win


Manchester United  4  (Fletcher, Giggs, Park, OG)  v  Stoke City   0

Manchester United fans have seen their fair share of  Premiership deciding final day dramas over the years: this was not one of them. By the time midfielder Darren Fletcher gave United the lead on the half hour of a must win game against Stoke City at Old Trafford, table topping Chelsea were already 1-0 up against ten man Wigan and the three points they needed to clinch the title were for all intents and purposes already in the bag.
