Laurent Blanc puts his hand up to succeed Sir Alex


Now here’s a man who would be welcomed back with open arms at Manchester United in some capacity. Laurent Blanc was all class and elegance on the field during his 20 year playing career which ended at Old Trafford in 2003. Sir Alex Ferguson had brought him in at the age of 35 two years earlier as a stop gap replacement for Jaap Stam and hung up his boots after making a total of 75 appearances for the club.

Media must not hound Rooney out of Old Trafford


Club legend Pat Crerand is urging the Manchester United faithful to get behind troubled striker Wayne Rooney when he takes the field at Old Trafford on Saturday as it will give him the lift he needs to rediscover the form which has deserted him. “Saturday is the perfect time for Wayne to get back amongst the goals and I’d urge all United fans to get behind him even more so than usual” Crerand said “It’s easy for players to lose their confidence but he’ll feel 100 per cent better if he walks out at Old Trafford and hears his name being sung by the fans.”

Sir Alex and Mourinho are football brothers in arms


Having been a lifelong, avid book reader, primarily football autobiographies of course, the release of Sir Alex Fergusons new book “Football Bloody Hell” scheduled to hit the shelves this week already has me salivating. It’s a book that has been anxiously awaited since Fergusons “Managing My Life” a decade ago and if a preview written by Andy Mitten for the Manchester Evening News is any guide, it will be sitting on my bookshelf the minute it hits the stores.
