Roman Pavlyuchenko can allow Berbatov move to United

Many reports agree that today Spartak Moscow have accepted a £15 million bid from Tottenham to sign Russian striker Roman Pavlyuchenko who was among the stars of Euro 2008. This signing by spurs manager Juande Ramos suggests that Pavlyuchenko has been bought as a replacement for Berbatov who is looking to move north to play with Manchester United.

Berbatov’s agent Emil Danchev has been in London this week, but there were no meetings held yesterday with Tottenham’s chairman Daniel Levy.

With Spurs aggressive to send Berbatov to the reserves team unless Manchester United bid an offer of £30 million, Fifpro, the international union for professional footballers, yesterday confirmed that the Bulgarian could effectively buy out his contract next year. But Sir Alex Ferguson is looking to add a striker before the end of the transfer window.

So the possible move of Pavlyuchenko to Tottenham and the meeting held between Berbatov, his agent and Juande Ramos can see the end of one of the longest transfer saga in English Premier League this season during the upcoming days.

But if the transfer of Berbatov collapse, it is unlikely to see another new striker as Sir Alex Ferguson has no other options because many targeted players have already played a game in the Uefa champions league and Fergie is known for his likeness of challenges, so he will have no problem if he does not get a new striker, which is very good news for out of favor Luis Saha who is looking to stay with United and prove that he is good enough to play at Old Trafford.

Fletcher secured United first Premier League win at Fratton Park

Darren Fletcher was the one to save Manchester United once again from dropping points after his only goal secured for United their first win against Portsmouth yesterday. The fans watched the return of Carlos Tevez and Anderson in the squad. However the problem with scoring goals to be solved as Rooney could not score again.

The first real threat came from Portsmouth’s Bouba Diop when he surprised Van der Sar with a long shot just went wide of Edwin van der Sar’s right hand post. Then United had a chance when Wes Brown crossed the ball from the right side to Wayne Rooney who stroked the ball but it was saved with no difficulty by David James in the centre of his goal.

United begun to retain control of the game with style Portsmouth forced two chances with Evra needing to get back and put Crouch off his shot after Defoe made the first opening, helped by a mis-kick from Anderson.

On the 32 minutes, Fletcher scored the first goal when Evra crossed the ball from left side after taking two players, Fletcher touched the ball and Pompey’s defender Distin got the final touch into his own goal to give United the lead.

Pompey tried to equalize but their efforts were collapsed as Rio Ferdinand, who was the captain, and Vidic were in their top forms.

After the game, Sir Alex was delighted to win the first game in the premier league which he hopes it can help the team in next games against Liverpool after the UEFA super cup in Monaco.

“I think we showed we have got good quality.

Also he was concerned about the possibility of adding new striker to the squad before the end of the transfer window on the 31st of August.

“There is only a week to go and you start to concern yourself a little bit,” Ferguson told Sky Sports .

“We would like to add obviously, but we just have to wait and see what happens.”

United allow Silvestre moves to Arsenal

Arsenal have just sign Mikael Silvestre from Manchester United for a fee is not disclosed. The French defender has been sidelined for most of last season due to injury before returning to action in March. Mikeal has been linked to move away from Old Trafford this summer and the likes of Manchester City Roma and Bordeaux have expressed their interest to the former Inter defender.

Roy Keane side Sunderland have also been linked with Silvestre but United have allowed him to play in London with rival Arsenal in a surprise step from United directors.

Silvestre signed from Italian champion Inter Milan in 1999 and made nearly 250 appearances for the club.

Silvestre will now try to find his best form at the Emirates Stadium and he will be challenging Gael Clichy for who will start as a left back after signing a two-year contract with the Gunners.

Most United fans believe that Silvestre should stay for a year, to complete 10 years with the club which would see United playing an extra testimonial game for him, and also to be a backup for players like Evra and Vidic till United find another backup for next season.

Thanks Mikeal, but we do not wish you best of luck with ARSENAL ;)
