Tomorrow, Monday 25th of August, Manchester United will visit Fratton Park to play against Portsmouth in the premier league. United already played twice against Pompey and they won both games (A friendly game in Nigeria and community shield). Sir Alex Ferguson is looking to win this game and get the first win for United this season after a home draw against Newcastle last week.
The game will see the return of Carlos Tevez after a family bereavement which kept him out of the opening day draw with Newcastle, while Nemanja Vidic is expected to be fit despite not training this morning and Portuguese international Nani completes a three-game ban. The squad also will be boosted with Anderson who returned back from China after Olympic duty with Brazil national team but the decision will be in Sir Alex hand wither to rush his come back or not after the number of injured players increased with Michael Carrick and Ryan Giggs joining the list.
Although Owen Hargreaves and Park Ji-sung trained with United’s first team squad at Carrington, it is unlikely to see them play against Portsmouth tomorrow as Fergie want the players to be fully fit. Hargreaves is expected to be back during the UEFA super cup game against Zenit St Petersburg next Friday.
Good news for United fans from Portsmouth that their squad is likely to miss Kanu and David Nugent with Lassana Diarra is slightly doubtful as he just recovered a knee injury he picked during Pompey last game against Chelsea.
Manchester United are expected to start up the game with:
GK: Van der Sar. RB: Wes Brown. CB: Rio Ferdinand and Vidic. LB: Evra.
RM: Fletcher. CM: Scholes and O’Shea. LM: Anderson. CF: Rooney and Tevez.
