It’s far too early to begin calling it a love-in yet, but there’s a chance that we may be seeing the start of a thawing in the long, bitter relationship between two of the biggest rivals in the Premier League. What’s more, this welcome turn of events, which comes just weeks before the new season, is being led by some of the most influential figures at both Anfield and Old Trafford. And not before time.

Surprise reports have emerged today that Manchester United have made Tottenham Hotspurs midfield maestro Luka Modric their leading summer transfer target. Sir Alex Ferguson sees Modric as a young Paul Scholes, an attacking midfielder and ball player who can make United tick and is thought to be preparing a £25million bid for the 24 year old Croatian midfielder.

Tottenham Hotspur will travel to Manchester absolutely brimming with confidence ahead of their lunchtime match with Manchester United on Saturday. Harry Redknapp’s young team will be looking to build on home wins over Arsenal and Chelsea with another three points at Old Trafford. However, for those of you who fancy Spurs chances, the head to head record between the two clubs should serve as a warning that United are not a team that the North Londoners fare well against.
