Life for a footballer in the 60s and 70s was as different as chalk and cheese when compared to the extravagant lifestyles of today’s multi millionaires – so much for the Good Old Days as far as they’re concerned! The Sunday Times ran a series of articles recently which illustrates how the world has changed for players from the two eras. Football legends who were able to bring the World Cup to England 44 years ago were ordinary, simple guys just like us back then instead of overly pampered stars surrounded by bodyguards, living with WAGS in stately mansions.

It’s a well known fact within the game that many players believe that clubs will pay them whatever they demand for their services, or at least their own agents lead them to think that way. Granted, some clubs are totally irresponsible with the amount of money they throw around but Manchester United is not one of them. The club simply refuses to give in to demands which are nothing short of blackmail and has vowed not to break its wage structure.

Manchester United 1 (Macheda 81m) vs Chelsea 2 (Cole 20m, Drogba 79m)

Chelsea reclaimed pole position in the Premier League title race with a 2-1 victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford. Sir Alex Ferguson will feel hard done by as substitute Didier Drogba was clearly offside when he collected Salomon Kalou’s pass and drove home 12 minutes from time. The significance of the error only became clear once Federico Macheda had pulled a goal back for the Reds to set up a pulsating finish.
