I bet many Manchester United supporters, especially who are living outside Manchester except those who have subscribed with MUTV, knew Federico Macheda before Aston Villa game. The Italian was lucky to be called for the game by Sir Alex Ferguson as he supposed to go to Italy to play a game with Italy under 21.
He stayed at Manchester and in the second half, Fergie has faith on the player who didn’t let his boss down and scored an important late goal on his debut to send Man United back to the top of the Premier League.
Before that game, Federico Macheda, or Kiko as his team mates call him, was living his life in Manchester like any other academy member…training and participating in the youth and reserve level, hanging out at night and using facebook in their free time! You can see Macheda fan page here. Also, Macheda has a facebook account like other youth players (such as Cameron Stewart and Tom Cleverley) with many friends (girls…Why not?!). I did not add a link to his account because I found more than five Macheda(s)!
Anyway…Inside the ground, which is the most important issue for us as fans, Kiko showed a great potential, good ball control with a wise using of dribbling skills guaranteed another striker for the future. (Don’t forget Danny Welbeck and Fraizer Campbell). I am not saying this because he scored a goal in his debut, but I’ve watched many games for Macheda with the reserve and under 18 teams and he really got what it needs to be a superstar!
I like his first interview with MUTV after Aston Villa game. He was very calm and happy and stated that his dream came true. When he was asked if his life will change after becoming well known in the premier league, his answer was very simple: No! My life will stay the same…In my opinion this guy will be able to handle the pressure as he is growing up.
In the other hand, I just hope Macheda won’t be another Giuseppe Rossi. Maybe Aston Villa game was his first and last game of the season! Sir Alex did it before with some young players. So Kiko, be patient! You are only 17 years old. Work hard and the future is yours!
