Ferguson faced with a depleted squad for Villa Park


That horrendous run of injuries which gave Sir Alex Ferguson so many nightmares this time last year are rearing their ugly head once again. Out of the 25 player squad Sir Alex selected at the beginning of the season, eight are either definitely out of contention for the visit to Villa Park on Saturday or are not expected to recover in time. Rooney, Hargreaves, Valencia, and Owen are all unavailable while Evra, Rafael, Anderson and Giggs are highly doubtful to make a full recovery.

Macheda double gives United a derby win over City


Reserve team matches are not exactly seen as a highlight on the season’s calendar but Manchester United’s clash with City on Tuesday night had more than the normal level of interest. United fielded a side worth £48 million against their multi millionaire neighbors in the 3-1 victory in the Manchester Senior Cup at Hyde’s Ewen Fields ground. Brazilian midfielder Anderson returned to action for the first time since suffering cruciate ligament damage in February by making a 60 minute appearance.

Tottenham Hotspur review: United top of the heap


Manchester Utd 3 (Giggs 2, Nani)  v  Spurs 1 (King)

Manchester United had a new Portuguese star to acclaim as Nani emerged the late match winner against Tottenham Hotspur with a moment of brilliance to send the Red Devils top of the Barclays Premier League. Filling Cristiano Ronaldo’s boots was always going to be a tall order and Nani may never quite get there but even Ronaldo would have applauded the nerveless chip that broke Tottenham hearts 10 minutes from time after he had raced onto Federico Macheda’s lay-off.

Blackburn Rovers v Manchester United preview


It has been a miserable few days for Manchester United after crashing out of the Champions League at the hands of Bayern Munich and being knocked off the top of the table by Chelsea last weekend.
