It’s a well known fact within the game that many players believe that clubs will pay them whatever they demand for their services, or at least their own agents lead them to think that way. Granted, some clubs are totally irresponsible with the amount of money they throw around but Manchester United is not one of them. The club simply refuses to give in to demands which are nothing short of blackmail and has vowed not to break its wage structure.

Watching Bayern Munich playing Lyon in the 1st Leg of the Champions League semi final I was struck by a strange feeling of relief that Manchester United were beaten by the Germans in the quarter final. This is purely my own personal opinion which in all probability is not shared by colleagues at Truly Red or by many fellow United supporters.
The European Champions League winner becomes exactly that – Champion Club of Europe and as such, has to undoubtedly be the greatest of all prizes. There is something very special about the Premier League this season however which to my mind, makes winning it an even higher priority. Read the full story

As expected, the German media also provided a huge amount of coverage to what one newspaper described as a “little footballing miracle” while lavishing praise on Dutch manager Louis van Gaal and his team. Somebody said many years ago that football is a game of inches! No idea as to who it was but how absolutely right that statement proved to be was perfectly illustrated by the elimination of Manchester United at the quarter final stage of the Champions League – by an inch!
One crucial incident amongst the many which were discussed following that 1-2 defeat by Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena was buried underneath all the headlines involving the injury suffered by Wayne Rooney which had the whole of England holding its collective breath. Read the full story

Manchester United face Bayern Munich, who have lost just twice in this year’s Bundesliga, a fixture Sir Alex Ferguson called very tough. United are second favourites after being handed a repeat of their famous “football, bloody hell” final of 1999, when they scored twice in the dying moments to pinch the trophy from Bayern. The German side won the tournament two years later however beating Valencia on penalties after defeating United in the last eight.
